Summary and Suggestions After Finished My Practicum at  MinSCAT Laboratory High School  Calapan City Campus.


This time I will share with you about the summary and suggestion after I finished at MinSCAT Laboratory   High School Calapan City Campus.

The purpose of this lab is to make us more confident and add a new knowledge. I am very grateful for this program, because after following this program, I feel very confident to speak in English and I am more confident to teach students. I got new knowledge from this program. So much new knowledge that I get from this program. Such as about cultural differences, education system and life there.

During the first week, I observed the school. in the second week I became an assistant teacher. in the third week I practice teaching and in the last week I compiled a report of myself. I was so excited when I saw this school, I met so many nice people. teachers and especially students. They warmly welcomed me, smiled at me and spoke kindly to me.

many challenges that I have to face here because of course very different from in my country. as for example when I do practice teaching I have to follow the rules there, in everyday I have to speak english during there. must respect each other's religion, must be able to adjust my regular meals to eat in my country with here. and also I have to adjust my life here like sociability and so on.

Again, I am very grateful for this program. Because of this program, I met a new family. Friends from Indonesia as well as from the philippines, my Coordinator Sir Jerome, the teachers here. Mr. President, Lecturer and administration at MinSCAT, and special All Of My Student. So many wonderful things happen, I am very happy and very grateful to the MinSCAT family because they serve us so well. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to teach here. So many impressive things. I am very happy to be a part of this program and with you all.

I hope that for the next program, information on this program will be shared more broadly. I also hope that the rules will be very clear to all universities so there is no miscommunication. Thank you SEAMEO for giving me this opportunity and giving me an unforgettable experience!

I will share with you about my experience when I teach students at the MinSCAT Laboratory  High School Calapan City Campus.

 At first I taught science in grades 7 through 10, but as I said earlier because I had to get 20 teaching hours so I was given additional classes with different subjects.
I teach science grade 7 to 10, mathematics grade 10 , TLE grade 8, HE grade 12, and STEM class 1.

Before I teach students, I have to make lesson plans and give them to my cooperating teachers and coordinators, so they will check them out first. Not just a lesson plan, I have to prepare other material if I use additional material. after that I usually set up a power point for my use at the time I teach.
I taught from Tuesday,February 6th until february 13th.

 


I teach them start at prayer, i will choose one of them to lead the pray. Everyday is different leader. Next i will do greetings, said good morning / afternoon to them. I have to checking the attendance to make sure who is my student that attend my class. I will ask to the secretary who's absent today. If the student has the assignment, i will ask for them, do they have a something difficult or not in their assignment. If they said, yes mam, ofcourse we will study that together. After we disscuss the assignment, i will review for them the past lesson. i will ask them, do they still remember the past lesson or not. After i do the daily routine, i will teach them about the topic today. I will give the motivation on learning and presentation to them. I will ask if they do not have a question or not. After that, i will give them some activity that they must do. Sometimes it is in group and sometimes not in group. They have to present it in front of the class and we will discuss it together. I and the student will generalize the topic and they will do some quiz before i give them homework. After that i will close the class.
 



When I first taught here I was very nervous. Yet before joining this program I have been doing teaching practice in my country. I am nervous because this is the first time I teach using English. Of course very different from in Indonesia I teach by using Indonesian language my everyday. But I am very happy because the students here are very kind and friendly to me. They are very active when I deliver lessons. They scrambled to answer questions from me when I asked them questions. They answered with confidence there was no shame, unlike me who was initially embarrassed and not confident when teaching them at first time.
What an experience I will never forget, here I can feel the experience of teaching using a language that I never used in my daily life before.
In addition I also had the opportunity to teach with subjects that are not my department, really very amazing for me. Although, honestly I was very scared at first because I was so confused for the first time because I did not know what to do. And then I tried to learn some material in the sillabus that I got from mam jermaine, and finally I got it. And my students can understand and understand the material I teach.

I am very grateful. I am very happy because I got the chance to teach them. Thank you very much my students.

In this post I will share with you my experience as I observe teachers at the MinSCAT Laboratory High School Calapan City Campus.
In this school I have to teach 5 subjects. but I only observe 1 teacher that is maam Jermaine Ritzchelle D. Marquez and 3 of student teacher  because at first I only teach science grade 7 until grade 10 and only get 13 hours teaching, but over time because I have to teach for 20 hours then I add additional classes to other subjects.



maam Jermaine Ritzchelle D. Marquez is a science teacher in grade 7 to grade 10. She is a good teacher and very attentive to me. for teaching planning, he prepares lesson plans, when I see him teaching students. Almost all students are active in teaching time with him. It only teaches less material, in part, but is very detailed, making it easier for students to understand it. For activities in the classroom, he follows the steps of the details and the lesson plans. To ensure students understand, at the end of the lesson, maam jermaine will give the students some quizzes. This quiz is also to evaluate students.

 









 There are 3 student teachers that I also observe there they are maam joly, maam hanna and sir paul. Before they teach they also prepare a lesson plan in advance where they beristiraht that is in the principal office. They also teach the material with pretty good and detail that can make students easy to understand with what they say. They were also very good with me while I was there and they also often helped me in making lesson plans because I was a bit troubled because the lesson plans were and Indonesia was different.

In this post, I will share to you about the teaching plan at MinSCAT laboratory  high school calapan city campus. This school uses K 12, so the teaching plan will follow the K12 curriculum. 

For lesson plans we have to make a goal. This is the goal when we teach students. We can follow the sillabus and add others to ourselves. Next is the subject matter. We should add topics, sub topics, references, and materials. At the procedure step, we can see teacher activity and student response. This activity contains prayers, greetings, classroom management, checking of attendance, checking of assignments, reviewing past lessons, motivations, presentations,  lesson proper, generalizations, application, evaluations, and assignment.

Based on my observations the contents of pedagogy at Minscat  Laboratory High School Calapan City Campus.
Teachers when teaching them to use explanations: for example when describing a material, the teacher will ask questions first such as "what do you know about protein?". the goal is to ask students and give students some activities as their teaching method. here teachers should be able to complete their teaching process in one hour. They should be able to manage time well, so that students can obtain information, conduct activities and get an evaluation in one hour only.

 

When teaching students, teachers usually bring media or play games in the context of learning to attract students' interest in learning,

At the time of learning when there are students who are noisy or busy themselves. The teacher will rebuke and focus the students back.

 

For learning materials and technology, in fact some students are using the package book and some students do not use the package book. They only receive information from teachers when they are in class. The teacher will use the module and sometimes other books, it depends on the teacher and the students needed. And if students need other information about their subject, they will go to the library and read some books.


For Learning and Technology Resources, teachers use K12 modules that they get from government. In addition, to add teaching materials, teachers also search the internet and other relevant books that they get from the library.

As an authentic assessment, teachers will give students quizzes that contain some of the questions they need to do as their evaluation. Usually they will work paper one and a half or a quarter. Then, students are also given homework that contains some problems they need to do at home

MinSCAT (Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology) Laboratory High School Calapan City Campus is the high school laboratorium for practicum of student teacher that study in MinSCAT Calapan City Campus .

Ø MinSCAT's History :
The Mindoro National Agricultural School (MINAS) was established as a secondary agricultural school by virtue of R.A. 506 sponsored by then Congressman Raul T. Lueterio of Oriental Mindoro. Students were first admitted on August 26, 1951. The 26 pioneering students cleared the virgin forest and helped in the construction of temporary structures, which served as cottages and classrooms. During its early operations, students were provided with free meals at the mess hall. MINAS then started serving the whole province of Oriental Mindoro and the neighboring provinces with supervised farming as the core of the curriculum. Students stayed in dormitories and cottages and were trained to work and earn money through their projects during practicum hours in the field of crop and animal production. The “earn while you learn” scheme was practiced.
In 1960 the first two years leading to Bachelor of Science in Agriculture was offered to implement R. A. 3758. In 1973, the school offered the two-year course leading to Associate in Agricultural Technology, a work - oriented curriculum. However, this technician curriculum was revised in 1980 orienting the subjects to the new Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) curriculum developed by the Technical Panel for Agricultural Education based at UP, Los Baños.
When MINAS was transformed into Mindoro College of Agriculture and Technology(MCAT) on July 10, 1976, it was categorized as a Higher Technical Institution offering the BSA degree with the four areas of specialization; Crop Science, Animal Science,
Agricultural Education and Agricultural Economics. It continued the offering of the Agricultural Technician Curriculum. It served as the training ground in the implementation of SEDP curriculum in the secondary department.
Under R.A. 8007, MCAT was converted into the Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology (MinSCAT) effective May 25, 1995. The former Congressman Renato R. Leviste, filed a House Bill No. 2354 entitled “ An Act Converting MCAT into a State College” was endorsed to the Senate under Senate Bill No. 1674 sponsored by Senator Leticia Ramos Shahani submitted the proposal to President Fidel V. Ramos for approval, making MinSCAT the first and only State College in Oriental Mindoro.
February 7, 2001 marked another milestone in the history of MinSCAT with the integration of the two (2) CHED supervised institutions in the province, namely, the Bongabong College of Fisheries now MinSCAT- Bongabong Campus and the Polytechnic College of Calapan now MinSCAT- Calapan City Campus.
The MinSCAT- Bongabong Campus originally the Bongabong School of Fisheries (BSF) was established on September 21, 1975 by virtue of R.A. 3306. In 1975, the government approved the offering of the Revised Fishery Technical Education Curriculum. It was converted into a full-fledge College, Bongabong College of Fisheries (BCF) on July 5, 1995 by virtue of R.A. 8143. By virtue of R. A. 7722 otherwise known as Higher Education Act of 1994 and R. A. No. 8292 (Higher Education Modernization Act of 1997 ) and R. A. No. 8760 otherwise known as General Appropriations Act of Fiscal Year 2000.
The MinSCAT-Calapan City Campus, on the other hand, was established as a government secondary trade school known as Calapan School of Arts and Trades (CSAT) by virtue of R. A. 3397 on June 1961 but only started operation five years later. In 1972, CSAT merited by the Ministry of Education Culture and Sports (MECS) the approval to offer Trade Technical Education Curriculum. Efforts to convert into a College authorized to offer degree courses were realized with the approval of R. A. 8076 in June 19, 1995 converting CSAT into Polytechnic College of Calapan. With the integration the then PCC has evolved into being the MinSCAT – City Campus.
The Mindoro State College of Agriculture and Technology, with the three campuses within the two congressional districts of the province is recognized as the only public institution of higher learning in the Province of Oriental Mindoro.

Guided by the tenets of commitment, productivity and competence, the three campuses chart their development programs towards the direction of technological discipline which leads to global competitiveness.
MinSCAT has mandated four-fold functions on instruction, research, extension, and production which would constructively harness the aspirations of the people of Oriental Mindoro and neighboring provinces for its quality but affordable and technological education which can compete to global aspirations, the leaders of this institution is aiming for.

But fate intervened this noble intentions, he succumbed to death on February 2, 2007. His untimely death leaves MinSCAT into the hands of a more dynamic, more aggressive, more determined person, Dr. Jesse T. Zamora, who was then installed president after a couple of months to serve the unexpired term of the demised president, Dr. Angelito A. Bacudo, on August 2, 2007 up to July 9, 2010 and then once again appointed as a full- fledged president to serve MinSCAT from July 9, 2010 up to July 9, 2014.
Under the new administration, the institution showed signs of unequalled growth due to his untiring effort and determination to put MinSCAT on the pedestal of Excellence in Higher Education not only in the province but also in the whole MIMAROPA region.
Books of latest edition and publication and other reading materials were purchased to adapt to the growing needs of the clienteles. New courses were offered, extension and researches were accelerated to cater to the clamors of the fast growing population of sustainable agriculture for food production.
The school library now with its new site and location far from flooding that destroyed almost all the resources of the library is now fully air conditioned. Additional units of computers were installed, lights and ventilation are good and conducive for studies of the students and a new library system is going to be introduced this first semester, school year 2012-2013, the bar coding system, a project of the Korean volunteer with the able support of the dynamic president, Dr. Jesse T. Zamora.

He explained the MinSCAT profile very well. He said that Since this is a lab high school, this school uses the MinSCAT Campus facility to provide their activities in teaching. Like, computer laboratory, science laboratory, school buildings, libraries and teachers.
There are 3 science laboratories, 1 for biology, 1 for chemistry and 1 for physics.
There are 4 classes of buildings, for grade 7, grade 8, grade 9 and grade 10. In the classroom, we can see there is a blackboard using chalk and toilet for students at the back. In one class, there are about 40-50 students. In addition to classrooms, we can find principal offices and faculty offices for teachers. place This is the place used by teacher teachers at MinSCAT to create their lesson plans, or do some activities to prepare for their classes, or just take a break.
Students here use uniforms on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. And on Wednesdays they have free uniforms.

In this school, they will start studying at 07.30 to 05.00, each subject only has 1 hour a day but continue for 4 days. for example, science subjects in garde10 starting on Tuesday to Friday.
·       Materials and Other Learning Resources
In this school, students do not have their own books to learn, so they will borrow books in the library when they need them. Teachers use the modules they get from government websites, but some teachers only use the syllabus and the internet for the material.
·       Measurement and Evaluation System
To evaluate students, the teacher will give the students some quizzes at the end of the class. Students should do it and collect it to the teacher.
·       Curriculum
SMA Laboratories MinSCAT uses K 12 Curriculum as a basis for teaching students. So, students have to do 4 years in junior high, that is grade 7, grade 8, grade 9 and class 10. and 2 years in high school that is class 11 and 12, teachers use sillabus they download from government website as their direction to teach students. In K 12 Curriculum, one year of study is divided into 4 quarters, ie first quarter, second quarter, third quarter and fourth quarter.
·       Teaching Plan
In this school, the teaching plan is divided into three. That is, daily study logs, Semi-detailed Learning Plans, and Detailed lesson plans. For new graduate teachers up to the third academic year, they will use the Detail Learning Plan. For expert teachers, they use the daily tutorial logs only.
Daily lessons only record forms that fill in student material and objectives.
A semi-detailed learning plan is a lesson plan that summarizes teacher activity and evaluation for students.
Detailed lesson plans are lesson plans that summarize teacher activity and student activities.
